LITTLE DARBY CREEK NEEDS YOU!
The State of Ohio is considering a proposal to allow the largest mega-dairy farm in the state (over 5,400 dairy cows] along Little Darby Creek in Madison County. Orleton Farm would produce as much sewage as a city of 100,000 and store it an open lagoon the size of 47 football fields. This waste would be sprayed on area fields where it could runoff into the Little Darby and its tributaries.
These CAFOs {short for Confined Animal Feeding Operations} have polluted streams and disrupted the quality of life of neighbors wherever they have been permitted--Buckeye Egg being the worst example in Ohio. We cannot risk losing our finest natural resource to such an operation.
The Little and Big Darby are state and national scenic rivers, home to 38 rare and endangered species. Metro Parks, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and the city of Columbus and many local communities have spent millions of dollars to preserve the Darby. The State of Ohio must not allow this factory to destroy these efforts!
If you care about the Little and Big Darby Creeks, please take a moment to call or write and voice your concerns about the Orleton proposal: Here...
